Art design - A grand showcase

12th December 2008 at 00:00

The work of Scotland's brightest young artists is being showcased at an exhibition at the People's Palace on Glasgow Green.

It features works of art submitted by art and design candidates during this year's SQA examinations for Standard Grade, Intermediate 1 and 2, and Higher. The majority of artists featured range from 15-18 years of age. As well as paintings, the exhibits include sculptures, ceramics, fashion designs and jewellery.

This is the first time the People's Palace has been used for the Scottish Qualifications Authority's touring exhibition of the best work by art and design students, and it is the second of a series of SQA shows being held at major venues over the next six months. The Scottish Parliament hosted the first exhibition last month, and the final one will also be in Edinburgh, at the National Gallery of Scotland.

Janet Brown, chief executive of the SQA, said: "The works of art that have been selected are not being displayed simply because they were awarded top marks, but also because they show the quality, depth and the breathtaking imagination and creativity of Scotland's young artists."

The exhibition runs until Friday January 16.
