Art thou female?

20th November 2009 at 00:00

I noticed this week that the advertisement for an art teacher in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, states, in bold letters, that the school is seeking a "FEMALE art teacher". I'm horrified that The TES has allowed this kind of discriminatory advertisement to be published. Speaking as a 30-year veteran of fine arts teaching I am particularly outraged as it is common knowledge among professionals that the best art teachers are invariably men.
