The importance of the role played by the arts in children's lives will be highlighted with the launch of the first manifesto for children's arts this summer.

It will be drawn up by Action for Children's Arts (ACA), an umbrella body for arts organisations promoting creativity. It follows the Government's announcement that all pupils should be offered five hours of cultural activity every week.

David Wood, ACA's chairman, will launch the manifesto at the body's annual conference on July 21, at the Unicorn theatre in London.

The event will be attended by artists and teachers.
