Twelve-year-old Stephanie Lyall (Royal High, Edinburgh) looks like having a big future in athletics. Although she was not a winner at the recent Scottish Schools' Indoor Championships at Kelvin Hall, she finished second in the under-16 800 metres to Sharon Lamont (Genwood High) and her time of 2 min 28.5 sec was a Scottish indoor record for her age-group.

Another young athlete catching attention is 13 year-old Kimberley Skinner, who has equalled the 3.20 metres under-17 Scottish best for the indoor pole vault.
