Bags of trouble

ITALY: An 11-year-old girl who slipped and fainted on her way to school apparently because of the heavy satchel she was carrying, has given new impetus to parents fighting to reduce the weight of school textbooks. Children often have to carry huge tomes, intended to cover two years' work, each day. The fall occurred just two days after the education minister said carrying heavy satchels "does not have repercussions on the growth of the spine".
