Baker edges ahead

Former education secretary Lord Baker has been appointed chairman of the vocational education foundation Edge. He is co-founder of the Baker Dearing Educational Trust, which is leading calls for University Technical Colleges offering 14- to 19-year-olds vocational courses sponsored by a university or further education college. Lord Baker replaces John Cox as chairman of Edge. The foundation is seeking a new chief executive following the departure of Andy Powell.
