On the ball

Craig Brown, the Scotland football coach, is no stranger to the Craigie campus of Paisley University. He used to lecture there in the days when it was called Craigie College of Education.

And so Craig of Craigie found himself back there last Thursday when he came across a football festival aid on for the primary 3s (pupils not trainee teachers).

"Do you know who this is?" the Craigie staffer asked the young ones. "Yes," piped up a well-informed fan. "He's the Scotland football janitor."

"It's the best compliment I've had all year," Brown was heard to comment.
