Barred from handling coursework

A teacher has been banned from having responsibility for coursework after repeatedly failing to follow correct procedures.

The General Teaching Council for England this week found Roger Wagner guilty of unacceptable professional conduct. It said he had failed to maintain appropriate standards of honesty and integrity while at All Saints Catholic School in West Wickham, south London. He did not submit sample coursework, failed to complete records and misled colleagues about the progress of pupils' work in 2006.

The professional conduct committee said it had taken stressful circumstances in his personal life into account. "However, the conduct in question took place over a period of time and it was deliberate," it said.

Mr Wagner will not be allowed to have sole responsibility for coursework until July 2011.
