The Teacher Research Grant Scheme provides up to 30 grants a year for small-scale classroom-based projects in English state and independent schools. The Teacher Training Agency scheme is designed to develop teachers' skills in "conducting, interpreting and using" research that fosters improved classroom practice. The TTA also stresses the importance of making the teacher-researchers' findings accessible to colleagues.

Applications are now being invited for the next round of projects which will begin in September and be completed by June 2000. The closing date for applications is April 11, 1999.

Grants of up to pound;2,500 are normally available for each project, but proposals that involve several teachers can attract an additional pound;1,000.
