Words to Outlive Us - Eyewitness accounts from the Warsaw Ghetto
Edited by Michal Grynberg Translatedintroduced by Philip Boehm
Granta Books pound;20

"In the living hell of the concentration camp, I wondered what it would be like to be free againnbsp;- a stupid, naive dream - and yet it came true. I was freed; I went back. I was free, but you weren't there... Only a tiny part of my beautiful dream of freedom came true. The rest shattered right there, in front of the house where you were supposed to be waiting."

These words were written by Samuel Puterman, who had gone to Palestine in the 1930s, but came back to Poland to see his parents.
