David Beckham is leading a drive to boost Welsh scholboys' flagging interest in books. Teachers at Abersychan secondary, near Pontypool, report that boys' interest in reading has rocketed since biographies about the England captain, Ryan Giggs and Michael Owen were added to the school library.
