1999 is the Year of School Sport and linked events and competitions will be taking place at all levels. Co-ordinating activities is the National Council for School Sport, an umbrella organisation which aims to raise the profile of school sport at a time when many aspects of it appear to be in decline. The NCSS is trying to encourage the governing bodies of individual sports to become more pro-active in their relations with schools, especially with regard to advice, coaching and equipment. Details: Pat Smith, NCSS, tel: 0115 923 1229.
