Bringing up the rear

To the delightful setting of St George's School for Girls in Edinburgh's leafy Murrayfield - or would the estate agents call it Ravelston?

Like most people, we were unable to resist the blandishments of headteacher Judith McClure, who regularly hosts think-tank sessions there in her capacity as convener of the Scottish Educational Leadership Management and Administration Society (popularly known - perhaps - as Selmas).

Such is McClure's drawing power that not one but two education ministers turned up - Peter Peacock (schools) and Nicol Stephen (colleges and universities).

We were pleased to receive a mention ourselves as she reeled off the other luminaries present, ending with - "and The Times Educational Supplement".
