The Encyclopaedia Britannica is being offered free on the Internet. No stranger to the World Wide Web, the encyclopedia's 32 printed volumes were previously available online for pound;3 a month but this latest incarnation includes news, commentary and features on contemporary issues. However, at the time of going to press, the website was unable to cope with demand.
