Budget abuse

3rd March 1995 at 00:00
How presumptuous of headteacher D W Dorey (TES, Letters, February 17) to expect us to applaud him for saving Pounds 100,000 from his school budget to build a new classroom. Budgets are not constructed to be spent on capital projects, but are intended for the needs of the children in the form of teachers, non-teaching staff and internal resources.

Around here we have had examples of schools putting in lovely new entrances and offices, but the children are in classes of 35.
