Building register

7th November 1997 at 00:00
Thousands of experienced roofers, bricklayers and painters have just eight weeks to register with the Government-backed Construction Skills Certificate Scheme if they are to maintain their right to work in the industry.

After December 31, those who have failed to register will have to gain a national vocational qualification to at least level 2 (GCSE equivalent) and a health and safety certificate before taking up employment.
