Buy school on EBay

10th October 2003 at 01:00
EBay, the internet auctioneer, is best known for selling rusted golf clubs.

But alert shoppers spotted this gem: "Unique 1921 building for sale in rural South Dakota" with a gymnasium, 13 classrooms and four bathrooms. The old school was put up for sale by a cash-strapped Elm Valley school district. Prices started at $2,000 but rose to $49,000 in frenzied bidding, well above its estimate. Wonder which will be the first British education authority to crack?
