It didn't take long for the good name of North Lanarkshire to surface at the General Teaching Council meeting last week. Wolseley Brown, from Golf primary in Airdrie of that parish, had barely uttered the phrase "in North Lanarkshire . . ." when fellow GTC members urged him "just be careful".

"Don't worry," Brown replied. "Very shortly I will have to present the report of the finance and general purposes committee."
