Cast a spell

4th April 2008 at 01:00
A new online resource called "Spellbound" has been launched by GridClub education consultants with the aim of motivating five to 12-year-olds to spell correctly, through a series of entertaining and challenging tasks.

The words are based on recommended reading lists provided by Learning and Teaching Scotland. The resource is designed with teacher and parental support in mind.

The first game is Spell Well, which employs phonic strategies to support effective reading and spelling; Beat the Bell helps pupils recognise patterns in words, including prefixes and suffixes; and Wicked Words challenges children to discover the meaning and spelling of words that are wicked enough not to fall within normal patterns.
