S1 are now incapable

Segbog: The newish S1s seem incapable of sitting down and shutting up for more than three minutes. I've noticed this creeping in for the last few years. Everything has to be about them. CfE probably has a hand in this ... all lessons must be a bleeding rollercoaster of fun. What are we setting kids up for? They will enter the workplace expecting their call-centre jobs to be a laugh a minute and all about them.

Socrates: I would agree totally. How much of it is CfE's fault, I'm not sure, but from what I've seen, the new S1s can often be very hard going. Whacking the class sizes back up to 30 in English and maths hasn't helped either.

Catmother: This has been commented on by most of the teachers at my school. I have a lovely S1, but they cannot be quiet for more than five seconds, usually after a big telling off - which seems to just be a small interruption in their social chit-chat.

CanuckGrrl: If you think this year's S1s are bad, remember they only had CfE for the last couple of years. Wait till you see what's coming up, when you get cohorts who've had CfE singing and dancing all around the bloomin' whiteboard right through primary ... It's not just CfE, it's the emphasis on whiteboards. Children do not engage with print in any sustained way.
