Jordanhill campus to close in July

Harryhausen: I read with astonishment that the age-old seat of learning about learning is closing and reopening near John Anderson campus, University of Strathclyde. What are your thoughts, if any, of the old place? Is this a good idea or not?

Effinbankers: Can't say I learned much there, nor did I enjoy the queues at the Clyde Tunnel. There were people lecturing there who hadn't been in a classroom for over 20 years.

mcmullet: The whole point is that they aren't in the classroom: they do the research and the theory that I wouldn't want to do but is necessary unless you just want to go in and work through worksheets like a robot. I think most of the students coming out now are better than I ever was when I qualified because of what they get up there. The folk at Jordanhill and Glasgow in my subject seem OK. It's a pity the building is closing.

Effinbankers: I get the impression that students on leaving teaching college are becoming super-confident. They speak out at every opportunity and often tell you how things should be done after five minutes. Ask them to develop something - just a basic lesson - and they haven't a clue.

amysdad: I do think StrathclydeJordanhill will lose something for not being on a separate campus, not least the history of the place.
