Check your SEF

Self-Evaluation Forms (SEF) on Ebay? That Sounds Extremely Fishy to me ("Ebay: great for concert tickets ... and Ofsted cheats", December 4). You can't buy good self-evaluation - you have to do it yourself. As a former head and HMI, I have long been convinced of the value of good evaluation as a vehicle for school improvement. Someone else's SEF, even at the basement price of #163;1.99, cannot do this for you. But help is at hand. The Association of School and College Leaders is offering, in return for a #163;25-ish donation to its Kenyan educational charity, a 60-page guidance booklet to the new Ofsted framework and the new SEF. This has already raised more than #163;10,000. Head to and click on "publications".
