Coming soon to a primary playground near you, "Pawn to King Three". Edventure's new Mega Chess is another bright idea from the makers of "soft, safe, traditional fun" playground playthings.

Mega Chess consists of a set of essentially two-dimensional pieces (4cm thick) which slot on to base pieces of similar thickness. Each playing piece, the tallest of which is 45cm high, has a jolly cartoon face drawn on it.

To mark out the playing area, Edventure sells a marking kit, which contains eight spray paints, marking squares and L-shaped sides.

One of the virtues of Mega Chess is that children themselves can assemble and disassemble it in moments, and love to do so. During tests of the game, the children enjoyed manoeuvring the pieces as well as discussing and thinking about the actual play. Check, mate, as Kasparaov might put it.
