Choice is the way forward

CHOICE is the way to drive up standards, Education Secretary Charles Clarke said this week. At a joint press conference with Health Secretary Alan Milburn, he championed diversity and said: "We want to encourage more freedoms and more autonomy." Specialist schools and the "leading-edge programme" should not be isolated pockets of excellence, he said.
