Operatic journey

Ring Round the World, a jazz opera commissioned from composer and music educationalist Pete Churchill, takes audiences on a journey through the countries competing in the Olympic Games.

What is it?

The opera has 173 scenes - one set in every major world nation - and more than 5,000 cast members from 173 schools. The show's opening and finale are set in London and it has scenes set in Australia, China and Greece. However, there will be six new scenes at each performance devised by the children and set in different countries.

The next performances will be at the Pleasance Theatre, north London, from 26 June to 6 July and the Broadway in Barking from 10 to 18 July.

The project's website includes world music resources and classroom activities about every country represented in the opera. Go to www.ringroundtheworld.orgcontentresources.
