An environment workshop with wildlife TV presenter Chris Packham and a visit to a conference in Sweden are among the top prizes offered in the Volvo Adventure for Young Environmentalists scheme. Groups of young people aged 10-16 are invited to research and plan a practical project that will help to address a local environmental issue. The deadline is December 31.

Categories are: biodiversity, energy, transport, water, waste and recycling. Prizes of pound;500 will be awarded to each of the best 10 entries, one school or youth group will win the workshop and the overall winning group will attend the Volvo conference in Sweden in 2004, where three projects will be selected for international recognition and prizes worth up to US$10,000.
