YOUNG JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR
CNN International, the news network, is inviting full-time university students to submit by August 29 a self-made news report (in print or on video or audio tape) from three international categories: current affairs, business or sport. The winner will spend five days at the CNN headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia observing professional journalists in action. Nine Panasonic camcorders will be awarded to category winners. PRINCE MICHAEL ROAD SAFETY AWARDS
Full-time students aged 18 and under are invited to submit a poster, video or computer graphics on the theme of "Speeding" by August 31. There is also an award for the teacher who has made the most significant impact on the teaching and practice of road safety locally or nationally. KRZYZOWA FOUNDATION ANNUAL ESSAY COMPETITION
The Foundation, which promotes mutual co-operation in Europe, has until now invited entries from 15-18-year-olds in German and Polish only, but this year it is also accepting essays in English and Dutch on "Europe 2000 - Europe of Tolerance?", closing date September 1.
