There is still time for urban primary teachers to apply for a placement on Earthwatch's Hebridean Whales and Dolphins expedition, August 27-September 2. Four teachers whose applications demonstrate the most enthusiasm for the environment will be awarded places. Closing date May 31.

The Philip Lawrence Awards, organised by 4Children, recognise outstanding citizenship by people aged 11-20 making contributions to communities.

Previous winners have tackled lawlessness and violence or promoted safety.

Projects promoting understanding of faiths and cultures will also be considered this year for the pound;1,000 awards. Closing date for nominations: September 15.
