JANUARY 14-MARCH 5 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY COURSES FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY TEACHERS.

The Advisory Unit of Computers in Education at 126 Great North Road, Hatfield, Hertfordshire, is running a range of courses including: preparing for IT in an OFSTED inspection, January 22 (secondary) and February 26 (primary); PCs for the nervous, January 28; early years and IT, February 5; investigating secondary science, February 6, geography, February 27 and mathematics, March 5; and a primary IT co-ordinators training course, January 16, 30 and February 13. EVALUATING EARLY YEARS PRACTICE WITH REFERENCE TO OFSTED INSPECTION FEBRUARY 4,11, MARCH 4,11

READING DEVELOPMENT AND EXTENSION AT KEY STAGE 2 Organised by and to be held at The Institute of Education, 20 Bedford Way, London WC1. The first is aimed at under-fives' teachers and nursery nurses, fee Pounds 30, and the second at those involved in teaching and organising reading from Years 3 to 6. Fee: Pounds 105. LITERACY DEVELOPMENT The Literacy Assessment and Research Centre, Institute of Education, 10 Woburn Square, London WC1, is running several practical, jargon-free courses including: "Reading: easy for some?", February 3-4, repeated October 7-8; "Spelling: easy for some?", March 10-11, repeated June 30-July 1 and October 14-15; bilingualism and its implications for reading, March 17, repeated May 12 and November 11; and memory, function and assessment, April 30, repeated September 30. SCHOOL FOOD INITIATIVES Organised by School Meals Campaign in London and Newcastle respectively to complement the launch of the School Food Action guide (price Pounds 14).
