A world to the wise

Tackling Global Issues is the theme of this year's Geography Awareness Week, which runs from June 21 to 25. The event is run by the Geographical Association, which has produced resources for use with children from early years to sixth form. Pupils' work on the theme can also be submitted to the association's Worldwise Challenge in support of applications to take part in a residential weekend. For details and resources, go to www.geography.org.uk.

The magic of maps

Some of the largest and most impressive maps ever made are on show at the British Library in London. The exhibition features 80 maps dating from 200AD to the present day, including many from the golden age of discovery from the 14th to the 18th centuries and many never previously exhibited. Magnificent Maps, which runs until September 19, is accompanied by workshops for primary and secondary pupils. Visit www.bl.uk.

Free wallplanner

Teachers who missed the Global Wallplanner with The TES on May 7 can order free copies from the Global Dimension website, run by educational charity DEA. The calendar runs from September 1, 2010 to August 31, 2011 and features international events to help teachers plan assemblies, highlight themes for lessons and organise whole-school activities. The website also provides background information on each event, links to additional resources and starter activities based around the photos on the wallplanner. To order additional copies, visit www.globaldimension.org.uk.
