Cynicism II

24th February 1995 at 00:00
How cynical can you get? The only recent Secretary of State for Education to secure funding in full for teachers' pay from the Government was a certain Kenneth Clarke. Why?It was to be an election year. Now that same Kenneth Clarke abuses teachers (and many other public-sector workers) so that he can provide future tax cuts. When? Just before the next election.

But low-earning teachers will not benefit much, certainly not those who have been made redundant.

One can only hope that teachers, their families, and all governors and parents who realise that schools and students depend for their success on a well motivated teaching force with high morale, will remember the havoc this Government has wreaked on state education, and vote accordingly.
