* Dance Xchange, Birmingham Hippodrome, Hurst Street, Birmingham (0121-622 3253) runs an after-school youth dance group for 11 to 15-year-olds Fridays; Bami-Jo African Dance young people's weekend July 15-16; West Midlands Youth Ballet July 30-31, Coventry.

* BT has launched a youth dance sponsorship programme. Applications (via videotape) are open to amateur dance groups for ages 11 to 19. Registration closing date June 30, entries by August 4 (0181-870 9624); BT Dance '96 UK Festival: Queen Elizabeth Hall March 31 1996.

* English National Ballet runs open days for young people at Markova House, 39 Jay Mews, London SW7 2E5 (0171-581 1245) July 20, September 2123; masterclass on Romeo and Juliet, July 27; working rehearsals July 31, August 4, company class August 2 and 5, commentary and back stage tours August 2 and 5 (Royal Festival Hall).
