Debate needed

31st July 1998 at 01:00
SO HILARY Wilce (Last Word, July 17) regards the arguments in favour of moving away from a three-term year as "already half-won''. The growth of the summer schools and playschemes that Ms Wilce cites surely owes more to parental desperation than reasoned argument. By all means let there be a reasoned debate based on the interests of children's education, but let's not have change based on what's expedient for parents.
