Delay over pay

Teachers are still waiting for government confirmation that their pay will rise more slowly than inflation for the next three years. The School Teachers' Review Body advised the Government in October on the pay deal, which will set a precedent for other public servants. But Ed Balls, Schools Secretary, delayed announcing his decision this week, allowing the Prime Minister time to persuade intransigent MPs to accept a similar low pay rise.
