Deprived top of pilot queue

Primary schools where 45 per cent or more of pupils are entitled to free school meals will be first in line to join the extension of pilots of the play-based foundation phase for three to seven-year-olds. Jane Davidson, education and lifelong learning minister, said this would mean they could dovetail their work with a new "flying start" initiative offering additional health, education and childcare services to families.
