TRAVELLING LIGHT THEATRE COMPANY'S mostly non-verbal adaptation of Quentin Blake's book, Clown, is accessible to deaf audiences aged three upwards. It reaches Cambridge, December 10-11, and Brighton, December 17-31.

In the Shadow of the Trees, by visual theatre company Horse and Bamboo, is at Manchester's Royal Exchange, December 16-January 7. Suitable for ages seven upwards, it tells the story through puppets and masks of the fateful day a girl, who has grown up in the woods alone, discovers she is not the only human in the forest.

Many theatres offer sign-assisted or audio-described performances. These include:

BRISTOL OLD VIC'S world premiere of Aladdin and the Enchanted Lamp, with Robert Gwilym as the Sorcerer. Written by Philip Pullman, author of the His Dark Materials trilogy, the show will be sign language interpreted, January 21, 2pm, and audio-described, January 14, 2pm and 7.30pm, January 21, 7.30pm.

THE HAYMARKET THEATRE, Basingstoke's production of The Wind in the Willows, featuring 24 local children as mischievous weasels, stoats and Wildwooders.

It will be sign language accompanied, December 20, 7pm, and audio-described, January 7, 2pm.

NOTTINGHAM PLAYHOUSE, with audio-described performances of Jack and the Beanstalk, December 14, 2.30 and 7.30pm, December 16, 7.30pm, January 4, 2.30pm, January 10, 2.30pm, January 12, 7.30pm. BSL sign language interpreted shows are scheduled for December 12, 2.30pm, December 13, 7.30pm, December 15, 7.30pm.

CARNEGIE HALL, Dunfermline, with BSL-interpreted performances of Beauty and the Beast, December 15, 1pm and 7pm.
