Download of the week - Classroom monitors and helpers

18th September 2009 at 01:00

What is it?

This is a range of slides depicting different roles for classroom helpers. You can print it out for an adaptable display, with a space to add the name of an individual or pair of pupils.

How can it be used?

You can fully edit the slides and can adjust them to suit your class. Laminate them and create name badges for pupils if you wish, display them as posters on the wall and rotate the pupils accordingly throughout the school term.

Classroom ideas

At the end of every term all the different roles can be reviewed and the best helpers can be awarded a prize. Why not set up a poll so the pupils can vote for who is the best helper, and then put all the names into a hat and decide who starts off with which role next term? You could also encourage a discussion to find out whether anyone thinks there is a better or different way of carrying out the classroom tasks.

Why is it successful?

It's a useful resource to help teachers achieve a well-organised classroom, and helps engender a sense of responsibility in pupils.
