What is it?

Colour-coded cards to help pupils put together imaginative stories. They include lists of settings, objects, characters, titles, beginnings, middles and endings. A story could, for example, be set on the top of a double-decker bus with a lost school bag. Pupils then fill in the rest of the story.

How can it be used?

These can be used as flashcards or displays. Just print out and laminate and they will brighten up the classroom and inspire imaginative story-writing. They are suitable for ages five to 14 and varying abilities.

Classroom ideas

Using the steps and ideas provided on the cards, pupils can create a story in groups, then read out loud to the other groups when it is completed. Once they have shared their stories, they can be discussed and developed further.

Why is it successful?

The cards are simple and colourful, a great time-saver and suitable for a wide range of pupils.
