Durham - Brown takes No 10 on tour

26th February 2010 at 00:00

Gordon Brown held a Cabinet meeting at Durham Johnston School, on the outskirts of the cathedral city. He was shown round the new #163;24 million premises by pupils who gave up part of their half-term holiday.

Officially opening the school, the Prime Minister said: "It is the first time the Cabinet has ever met in a school or the North East. I hope you see we behave ourselves."

Security was tight, with a strong police presence and visitors sent through airport-style scanners and frisked.

Mr Brown was escorted round by head Carolyn Roberts and local Labour MP Roberta Blackman-Woods. DM.
