E-love couple head for the altar
The newspaper's online forum this week celebrated the engagement of two regular contributors. Pete Davison, a 25-year-old music teacher, and language teacher Jane Middlebrook, 31, met and fell in love online.
Mr Davison, aka Angry Jedi, told the electronic world that he was seeking female companionship last February. Ms Middlebrook, aka Janemk, responded with: "You sound lovely, AJ! I might even be tempted to lunge!" They began emailing and met a month later. Ms Middlebrook, who had been teaching in Italy, returned to England and Mr Davison met her at the airport.
"There was definitely an attraction before we met in person," he said. "We just got on. We knew already we wanted to be together."
At the first meeting, Mr Davison was so nervous that he logged on to the TES website at the airport, to share his feelings with staffroom regulars.
Ms Middlebrook was also anxious. She said. "He's not what I've gone for before. I liked his character so I decided to stick it out."
Love blossomed. "Jane had a lot of preparation work to do at home, and I was always happy to help," said Mr Davison. "Both being teachers, we understand each other's stresses."
The couple, who live together in Hampshire, plan to invite a number of staffroom contributors to the wedding. "You develop a bond when you're emailing," said Ms Middlebrook. "You can think about what you say. And you have the freedom of anonymity. It's the best way to meet somebody."
