* A pound;1.6 million savings package is causing growing concern in East Ayrshire, according to the Educational Institute of Scotland. Although it blames the Government, the union is particularly concerned at a proposed 75 per cent reduction in additional staffing for schools in deprived areas which would mean 15 posts being redeployed to other activities.
