English - Art to inspire young writers

10th December 2010 at 00:00

Inspiration for creative writers can be found in the works of art in Scotland's national collection - and the best pieces of writing will be published.

The creative writing competition Inspired? Get writing! is now in its sixth year and open for entries. It is a joint venture between the National Galleries of Scotland, the Scottish Poetry Library and The English-Speaking Union, and receives support from the Scotsman newspaper

There are five categories, three for pupils at different stages of school, and two for adults. Entries can be in the form of prose or poetry but should be no longer than 1,000 words.

The closing date is Friday, January 21, 2011. An award ceremony, with public readings of the winning works, will take place on April 21, 2011.
