* For 600 years English monarchs kept wild animals in the Tower of London. Now a special Royal Armouries exhibition on The Royal Menagerie is on display in the White Tower until March 28. Brimming with anecdotes, illustrations and artefacts - some dscovered only recently - the centrepiece is a reconstruction of an 18th-century lion's cage complete with a lion borrowed from the Natural History Museum. Cost: free (after admission price to the Tower of London).
