English - In the pink

It's the sparkliest, most glamorous and pinkest prize in the world of fiction - the Queen of Teen award is back in a bid to capture the imagination of teenage girls across the country.

Founded in 2008 to celebrate the feistiest, frothiest and most fantastic writers for the tween and teen market, its previous shortlist included Meg Cabot, Jacqueline Wilson, Cathy Cassidy and Louise Rennison.

Queen of Teen is inviting nominations for this year's award, which will be presented at a glittering ceremony in September.

From April 12 to June 14, readers can nominate any female author for the award; a shortlist based on these nominations will be announced on June 21. Fans of the shortlisted authors will be invited to the award ceremony, in the grounds of Queen of Teen HQ in Surrey, where they will be able to mingle with their favourite writers, invited journalists and other guests.

The competition was launched in 2008 to acknowledge the "hugely significant" part that fiction can play in the teenage years and to encourage girls to turn off their computers and mobile phones and pick up a book instead.
