More than 2,000 children are expected to participate in the National Rock and Pop Festival at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, July 12-16.

The programme includes music workshops for schoolchildren, a day-long special needs session and evening concerts for family and friends featuring more than 70 bands involving 800 young people. It is supported by Birmingham and Solihull music services.

* The Last Night of the Proms will be celebrated on September 11 in London (Hyde Park), Belfast, Swansea, Glasgow and Manchester. Evelyn Glennie, Operatunity winners and conductor Carl Davis are among the stars at Hyde Park, and celebrations will continue there the following day with the BBC Children's Prom in the Park, featuring music from some of the classic Disney movies. The Royal Albert Hall Proms season runs from July 16 to September 11.
