AUGUST 21,22 AND SEPTEMBER 1 VICTORIAN ACTIVITIES The Ragged School Museum, Bow, London E3, is running free workshops for children aged six upwards in which they will make Victorian pomanders, talc, and peg people, 2pm-4pm. AUGUST 21-SEPTEMBER 27 (WEDNESDAYS-SUNDAYS) TIME FOR TEA It was at Syon House, Brentford, Middlesex, that this country's first tea bush successfully flourished in the mid-18th century, a fact that has inspired an exhibition at Syon on 18th and 19th-century tea drinking. On display are documents about tea purchases from the Duke of Northumberland's archives, teapots from the Duke's collection, table settings depicting how tea would have been taken in a stately home, and Twinings memorabilia from their 290 years in the tea-blending business. AUGUST 21 MENCAP JUBILEE APPEAL In its 50th anniversary year, Mencap, the charity for people with learning disabilities, is launching a Pounds 21 million appeal to support a new family adviser service network. It kicks off two years of regional and national fundraising events, awareness, education and promotions. Details: 0171 454 0454.
