(Photograph) - Fast Track: Luke Bywater, Robert Upton and Bradley Beresford, all pupils at Magdalen College, Northamptonshire, are among those gearing up to race remote-controlled cars at Silverstone grand prix track today.

The grand finale of the Learning and Skills' Formula Schools engineering competition will involve 1,000 12 to 15-year-olds from 1,000 schools.

Formula One teams Jordan, Renault and British American Racing support the competition, set up in 1997 to tackle Britain's engineering skills gap.

Teams race cars they have built themselves on a track which replicates a genuine grand prix, including pit areas and grandstand
