FE generosity

29th March 1996 at 00:00
Your coverage of NATFHE's ballot of FE staff employed by local education authorities gave a generous interpretation of the facts (FE Focus, TES March 8).

Out of some 7,000 full-time equivalent staff employed by LEAs, only 653 have indicated willingness to take industrial action. This is just over 25 per cent of NATFHE's claimed membership, hardly a three-to-one majority of those covered by the agreement.

Balloting for action at this stage is hardly conducive to further negotiations.
