Fear factor

Careful readers of The TES Scotland's educational conversations series will have noticed senior chief inspector Graham Donaldson's remarks that HMIE now attempts - we shall paraphrase - to take the fear out of inspections.

It seems a little unfortunate, then, that letters sent out from the inspectors' Glasgow office alerting primary schools to impending inspections in the west are dispatched on behalf of the inspectorate by, um, a Mr Stephen Fear.
