Filling in the blanks

16th January 2004 at 00:00
Members of the Educational Institute of Scotland looking for a break from moaning about the effects of job-sizing might have tackled "The Great EIS End of Year Quiz" published in the December issue of the union's journal.

Questions ranged from the sublime - "Which piece of music by Mahler did Luchino Visconti make famous in the film Death in Venice?" - to the less so - "What is the only English football team not to contain the letters of the word 'mackerel'?"

The quiz was compiled by Tantalus, who appears to know more about the post-festive working habits of teachers than the rest of us: "A short quiz to keep all EIS members gainfully employed until our next edition in February 2004."
